I have so many fond memories of my cousin, Lloyd. But one in particular stands out because it shows his mischievous side. As a child, my mother sent me to stay with Lloyd one day, because both his and my mother were going to the market together. My mother left Lloyd a can of herring, which he was supposed to cook with fried dumplings for my lunch. However, he decided to put so much pepper in it that when I tasted it, all I could do was cry. Through my tears, I watched him eat my entire lunch. Very mischievous indeed! But as adults, he would feed me many times over, so I finally forgave him LOL! Cuz, you will live in ours forever. Rest in peace.

Like so many others in the family, I asked my uncle to teach me how to drive. On a beautiful summer's day we were cruising along, him smoking a cigarette, me smiling and enjoying the drive, when he said, "follow that car". I looked at the car and looked at him, then asked stupidly, "that car?" He said, yes. I said, "but it's going on the parkway". He said, "I know". My smile was gone, my heart felt like it leapt into my mouth, and I thought the way he said "I know" sounded devilish! The steering wheel on that station wagon was not the easiest thing to maneuver, and now he wanted me to go on the parkway. I thought, "why Jesus?!" I was so super nervous! But, it turned out to be one of my best driving experiences!! We will miss his presence, but cherish every precious memory.

I loved my uncle dearly and as a child, followed him everywhere he went. On one occasion, his mother sent him on an errand and he took me with him. He also decided to ride the donkey. Because he did not saddle it, his mom told him I could not ride, but had to walk. However, as soon as we were out of sight, he pulled me up on the donkey behind him. At one point, the donkey stopped suddenly and wouldn't budge. My uncle used his heel to urge him to move and the donkey suddenly bolted sideways, causing me to fall off. Before I could get my bearings, my uncle fell on top of my right hand, breaking it. Neither of us were as worried about my arm as we we were about the beating his mom was going to give us for being disobedient. After scheming for a few minutes, my uncle told me to say that a bull was chasing us and I fell and broke my arm. Both his and my mother bought the story and we never told anyone the truth, until now LOL! I will always love and miss you uncle. Rest in peace.

Uncle, I have so many fond memories of you it hard to choose. I will always remember the Friday evenings you used to take Vivinne and I to Blinking Jinny, one of the top evening gown stores on White Plains Road to shop for evening wear. Vivienne and I would fit on about 20 dresses. The workers would bring all their top dresses for us to fit on. It felt like we were some movie stars. They knew you and they knew when you showed up, you were there to spend money. You would stand outside for two hours smoking and taking in the scenery of White Plains Road while Vivienne and I shopped. You would pop your head in at times and said, “Unu no find nuhting yet.” or “no, not that one, yes, that one look good.” At that time, I just saw it as you taking us shopping, but as I got older, I realized you were teaching us how a man should treat and wait on a woman. My dear uncle, I will always hear your unique and distinguish voice in my ear. I love for being the uncle that you were. I love you and will be forever in my heart. Paula
