Obituary

Violet Powell, 90, of Bronx New York and formerly the parishes of Manchester and Kingston in Jamaica.
Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother sister, aunt, and friend. Violet was affectionately called
Aunt Vie by her nieces and nephews and Mama by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Violet was born June 3, 1931, and entered eternal life on May 26, 2022, her spirit is carried by her seven
children Lavern Francis, Jacynth Francis-Miller, Cleveland Francis, Hernetta Francis, Donna Northover-
Campbell, Errol Williams and Gerald Williams, 22 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and
an extended family of relatives and friends.
We were all blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Mama/Aunt Vie during the 9 decades she was with
us. Among the many lessons she taught us was never give up. She would say “If you fall always brush
yourself off and get back up” she exemplified this in her daily life. She was very resilient and tenacious.
Violet was noted for being the life of our family gatherings with her witty jokes and smooth dance moves.
She always welcomed everyone to her home, she would invite you in then start dinner and prepare you a
meal made with love. Conversations with Mama was always delightful and enlightening, it would include lots
of humor, some life lessons, and a bit of nostalgia.
Violet is survived by her seven children, 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday, June 18, 2022. From 10-11AM for viewing and 11-12 noon
for the service of thanksgiving for the life of our late beloved Violet at Bethel Pentecostal Gospel Temple
Apostolic, 3823 Boston Road, Bronx, NY 10466. Burial follows at Kensico Cemetery at 273 Lakeview
Avenue, Valhalla, NY 10595 or via Zoom at 646-558-8656 ID 4838683876 PW 031323.
