The life and journey of Mr. William Cates
God in his infinite wisdom and Diving Mercy as called home from Labor to Rewards our beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and dear friend, William Edmund Cates. On April 1, 2022, William Edmund Cates entered into eternal rest peacefully at Montefiore Medical Center of the Bronx, N.Y. William Edmund Cates was born February 23,1961 in Lincoln Hospital to the L.G. Hayes and Louise Cates.
William was a resident of the Bronx and attended Evander Childs High School. William was an entrepreneur in his own way. William loved playing basketball; his dream was to become a professional basketball player. William loved his children, grandchildren and his stepdaughter very much. He was so proud of them that every time he would speak of them his smile would light up the room. William enjoyed spending time with his family very much. He enjoyed watching sports especially his favorite team, The Los Angles Lakers.
William was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Secret Ann Cates. William is survived by his three children Jazz, Capri, Chandler and one grandson. William is also survived by five siblings: Mildred, Louis, Yvonne, Robert and Virginia. William is also survived by his eight nieces, six nephews, fifteen great-nieces, fourteen great nephews. He wasn’t Uncle Will to only his nieces and nephews but to the whole neighborhood. William was different, he was special, and he will be truly missed…. and loved forever.
