Obituary for Mary Dean Petersen (Duncan)
Mary Dean Petersen affectionally known as Grandma Petey was born in Conway South Carolina to the late Hester (Pinkney) and Benjamin Duncan.
Ms. Petersen's formative years/education took place in Georgetown County (Pawleys Island) South Carolina. Following graduating Howard High School she relocated to New York. She met and married Elwin A. Petersen and from this union had three children, two boys & 1 girl.
Mary loved to travel , lend a helping hand, shop and bargain hunt. She had a beautiful smile and kind disposition.
Ms. Mary Petersen retired from Verizon phone company. In retirement she volunteered in the NYC Public Schools, and with the Retired Senior Volunteer program. Prior to her illness she was an active member of Tried Stone Baptist Church Bronx, NY. She served on the usher and missionary board and in the nurses unit.
Mary D. Petersen leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Elaine Shirley, son-in-law Bruce Shirley, granddaughter Dana Shirley, grandsons Christopher Shirley and Austin Petersen Hinderliter and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her husband and two sons Elwin Petersen Jr. and Earl Petersen.
