Obituary for Evelyn A Kenner

Obituary

Evelyn Adaline Kenner was born in Charleston, S.C. to loving parents, Elijah and Edna Poinsett. The oldest of three girls, Evelyn attended elementary and High School in Charleston, South Carolina before moving to New York City to live with family. It is here in New York City where she met and married Raiford Kenner. From that union came her two children, Anthony and Pamela.

Evelyn was employed by the New York Telephone Co, and then worked for Fisher Electronics until 1966. She then went to work for the Federal Government at NASA. There she met her best friend Patty, who through laughter, changed her life by encouraging her to be less serious and have more fun on the job.

As her children got older, Evelyn began to travel with her longtime friends Jackie and Pauline. Their travels included Las Vegas, multiple Caribbean Islands, France, Italy, Belgium and Switzerland. On one of her trips to the Caribbean, she found herself on the island of Antigua where she fell in love with the culture and people. Here she met her Antiguan guys - Cleve, Barnes, Mickey Banker, Denton, Alvin, T.J., and Franco, just to name a few. There she also met a fellow New Yorker, her Sister-Friend Merdis. Evelyn always wanted her family and other friends to enjoy traveling with her. This led to her organizing cruise trips, so that way she could enjoy traveling with her family and friends.

Evelyn was well known for her entertaining. There were holiday dinners, her infamous birthday parties in the basement and the summer cookouts. Amidst all of this, she has met and adopted quite a few people as her sisters, brothers and children, who include Helen, Bobby and Cameron Williams.

In the early morning hours of April 28th, 2021 Evelyn departed this life to take her place amongst the ancestors.
Preceding her in death are her parents Elijah and Edna Poinsett and sister Lillie Mae Wilson.

Cherishing her life in thought and memory are son, Anthony Kenner Sr., daughter, Pamela McClean, grandchildren, Anthony Jr, Brittany, Kimberly, Elisa, and Tiffany, great grandchildren, Anthony III, Hailey, Aaron, Ava, Nico, Lylah and Amaya, sisters Mary Rambert and Gloria Mungin, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
