Olivia Delane Squire was born on April 1, 1950 to the late Lucinda M. Squire in New
York, New York. She was educated in the New York City Public School System and
was an honor student throughout her academic career. In high school Olivia was a
member of the National Honor Society, and upon graduation enrolled at Herbert H.
Lehman College. She spent her junior year abroad studying at the University of London.
Olivia received her Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1972. After graduation, she was
employed as an Associate Economist with General Electric (GE). Olivia loved to travel,
and her position allowed her to see the world as she completed work assignments in
places such as Hong Kong, Nigeria, Switzerland, Japan and Paris. Olivia enrolled in
New York University and received her Master of Arts (MA) degree while at GE. As part
of the GE team, she relocated to Ohio, and later to Syracuse, New York.
In Syracuse, Olivia was driven by the need to contribute and serve in a more meaningful
way. She left GE and enrolled full time at St. Joseph’s Nursing School in Syracuse, New
York. Upon graduation she returned to New York City and was employed by Memorial
Sloan Kettering (MSK) as a Registered Nurse. She remained with MSK for thirty-three
(33) years until her retirement in 2017.
Olivia was extremely proud of her years of service at MSK. She believed strongly in
providing superior patient care, and was totally devoted to her patients. A consummate
professional, she continued studying in order to perfect her skills, attended conferences,
embraced research and development, and wrote several published articles with her
colleagues in nuclear medicine. She would often briefly leave MSK at the end of her
shift then return to sit with her patients. Olivia cared about others, and was always
willing to lend a hand. If there was a need for her services, in any way, she never
hesitated to help a family member, friend or stranger, whether near or afar,
demonstrated in her work with an MSK colleague to build a hospital in Ghana. An avid
social justice advocate, she put her advocacy into practice after retirement by serving as
a poll worker for several local and national elections.

Olivia and her siblings were raised in the Catholic religion. She committed her life to Her
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a faithful member of
St. Mary’s Church in Long Island City.
Olivia was an avid reader, sports fan, and patron of the arts. She enjoyed a good
political debate, and remained current on events taking place in the Global community.
She loved classical music and played the piano.
In April of 2019, Olivia suffered a massive stroke. While her survival and subsequent
medical condition stacked the odds against her on several occasions, she was a fighter
and never gave up her quest to live life, but God knew best and called her home on
Sunday, January 31, 2021. God has given Olivia her wings, and now she is in a place
where she can watch over and take care of us all.

The family of the late Olivia D. Squire gratefully acknowledges the many prayers and
