Obituary for Alice E. Bryant

" Alice E Bryant 93, of New York, N.Y., passed away on Thursday April 19, 2018 at 10: 56 A.M.

Born August 12, 1924 in Petersburg, Virginia, she was the youngest daughter of the late Lazarus Jones and Maggie Bass Jones. She attended Peabody High School, the first high school for blacks in Virginia, and one of the oldest black public high schools in the South. She later attended Virginia State College for Negros which was later changed to Virginia State University where she received a Bachelor's in Education. She later attended Columbia University where she earned her Master's from the Teachers College and became an assistant principal, working at various schools, within the New York City Board of Education. She contributed to many educational charities and was an advocate for the rights of children with learning disabilities. She left a charitable remaining trust to Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York.

Alice was preceded in death by her only daughter, Vanetta Bryant, who passed away in 2004. She is survived by her two nieces, Joyce M. Domingo and Shirley Coard, her nephews, Roland Sorensen and Bobby Jones, her great-nieces, Ayana K. Domingo-Rosado, Denora Williams-Phillips, Davina Coard-Martoral, Joi Sorensen and great-nephew, Baron L. Stukes"
