Obituary for Dorothy Lee Lewis

Dorothy Lee Lewis was born into this world on September 21st 1936 to Ernestine Lewis and Herman Jones in Madison County, MS. She was the oldest of 4 children born to Ernestine. Those who knew her called Dot or Miss Dot.

Dorothy attended school Good Samaritan Elementary School and Edwards High School in Edwards, MS. She left Mississippi in 1957 and moved to New York City. In the late 1970's she gave her life to Christ at the Greater Refuge Temple in Harlem, NY. Although she loved New York City, Dorothy remained country-girl at heart. She spent most of her life working in the healthcare industry as a Certified Personal Care Aide until she retired. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, entertaining her friends and spending time with her family.

After taking ill in late 2007 Dorothy resided at Concourse Nursing Center and Rehab for the last 8 years of her life. Dorothy departed this life on the morning of June 14, 2016 at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. She is preceded in death by her mom Ernestine Lewis, dad Herman Jones, daughter Brenetta Lewis (Snoopy), sister Minnie Hazel Smith and her granddaughter Latrina Lewis. She is survived by her three children: Maenovia Mitchell (Honey) of CT, Curtis Jones of NY and Brenodette Lewis (Red) of KS. Her siblings: Helen L Lewis (sister) of MS and Joseph Lewis (brother) of NY. Grandchildren: Jahmar Mitchell and Ambre Mitchell of CT, Tyesha Yates (Boobie) of NC, Andree Johnson and Tevin Johnson of KS. Her uncle: James Jones of MS and 7 great grand-children and 1 great great-grandchild, Her nieces: Angela Herbert of NC, Karen Lewis of PA and Rae Michele Lewis of AZ. Also left to mourn her loss are her many friends who she came to love as extended family.
